Product Overview
The DRIERITE 40451 is a disposable desiccant cartridge designed as part of a Vent Drier System for drums, totes, and small storage tanks. As product is withdrawn from a sealed drum, outside air is pulled in to displace it — and that incoming air often carries humidity that can contaminate sensitive contents. The 40451 cartridge intercepts that displacement air and dries it before it reaches the container.
Applications
Guards sensitive materials against moisture, protects tanks, pumps, and pipelines from corrosion caused by condensed water vapor, prevents biological growth by keeping out water, and prevents contamination of valuable liquids by corrosive sludge. It's commonly used to maintain a dry atmosphere in storage spaces, vaults, and commercial packages, and to protect hygroscopic materials or materials subject to mildew, corrosion, rust, or other deterioration caused by high humidity. It's also widely used in polymer/resin and spray-equipment drum storage applications.
How it works
The cartridge is installed using a drum adapter (installed in a 2" or ¾" bung); air passing through the cartridge is dried by the DRIERITE desiccant inside. It dries incoming air to a -100°F dewpoint, and is capable of handling airflows up to roughly 1200 gallons per minute (160 CFM) of displaced liquid volume equivalent.
Monitoring & replacement
A built-in indicator window turns from blue to pink when the cartridge is exhausted, giving a clear visual cue that it's time to swap in a new cartridge — no guesswork or scheduled maintenance required. drierite
Construction & specs
Built from 90# electrolytic tinplate with welded seam construction, measuring 2‑11/16" in diameter by 10" in height, and filled with 1¾ lb of DRIERITE desiccant with a water absorption capacity of about 0.2 lb.
Compatibility
Used with the DRIERITE Drum Adapter (Stock No. 50001/350896/350897) to attach to a storage drum bung. A refillable alternative (Stock No. 50068) is also available for those who prefer to recharge rather than dispose of the cartridge.
Safety note
Contains calcium sulfate-based desiccant (with cobalt chloride indicator on indicating versions). Handle per SDS guidance — avoid generating dust and avoid prolonged skin/eye contact.
